I was falling down a linguistic Wikipedia rabbit hole the other day but came to an abrupt stop after seeing something called the quotative like . Essentially, linguists have a term for when we use like to introduce a quotation. It blew me away that such a colloquial phrase had a term (though in reality, I should have expected this—linguists are really good at analyzing both formal and colloquial forms of language).Continue reading “The English Language Is Dead… And We Have Killed It.”
Hi, all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted–life got busy. But now, life should be less busy enough for me to bump my blogging up higher on my priority list.
My plan/hope is to do weekly posts for the next while. These may range from longer form content to shorter posts, maybe some art, and perhaps writing project insights/updates along the way.
One thing I will be doing to give myself a little more freedom and breathing room is not as carefully proofreading my posts (if at all), so if there are errors, please forgive them. I’ll be saving my proofreading efforts for my other writing–like my creative projects.
Speaking of which, I’ve got a few creative projects coming down the pipeline. I’ve got two speculative short stories in the works and a longer manuscript that I’ll be working on–through they each are at different stages (but all are completely drafted).
That’s all for now, though!

Editing one’s own work isn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve learned a few lessons along the way.Continue reading “What I’ve Learned from Editing My Own Writing”
I’ve been thinking lately about editing—about how difficult it is to edit one’s own writing—mostly because both of my current main projects are in the editing phase. In the writing stage, I told myself to keep writing so that I would have a finished draft. And now that I’m done drafting, I tell myself to keep editing so I can finish these projects and begin drafting a new project. Somewhere in this thought process I realized that I don’t like writing: I don’t like drafting, I don’t like editing, I don’t like rewriting, and I don’t like more editing. So why do I still write?Continue reading “Why I Love Writing”
